getting a porc!

so the other day i was craigslisting and some group of kids in my area were getting evicted from their house and one of the roomates (who had already left) had a terrarium with a large bearded dragon in a 125G. So the roomates, weather knowing the value or not just wanted to give away all the equipment. they just wanted it out that day. I took it, gave the bearded dragon to my local pet store and then tested the "terrarium" to be water tight, well it is 100% Now im a college student and im on the 2nd floor, there is no way im going to set it up now so its siting in my storage unit. I graduate in one year and ive wanted a porc forever so im going to buy a baby. right now i have a 60G with a yellow tang 2 clowns and a coral beauty and 2 chromis and a lawnmower blenny. So the porc will be the last in this tank. Anyways long story short, what should i stock up on in anticipation of my new addition. I have been told raw shirmp, anything else?

Hard shelled meaty foods crabs, snails, crayfish, small lobsters, clams, oysters, scallops etc. If you want to feed shrimp, make sure to get the shell-on shrimp

When you clean out that tank, be sure to scrub well with Oxyclean or bleach.

Can you feed salt water puffers ghost shrimp? I wanted to try but didn't know how that would work out or if its a good idea.

works just fine for me... and they LOVE it...

gut load them first to add nutrients then let them go...

they eat loads of tank algae and live quite happily for days/weeks until... well, you know the rest.

k two questions, i have a 29G that was a hospital tank, havent had a sick fish in over a year, anyways i want to make another sw tank out of it, how can I acclimate a GSP to full marine or could i just do a normal aclimation and they will be good to go?

also if I wanted to feed ghost shrimp could i gut load them with like marine alge and i would just want to buy like a 5G tank with no hood or anything. Could they jump?

definately get something to cover it, ghost shrimp jump a lot. Even if you just set an old book or something on it while they're inside. When I feed ghost shrimp to my puffer they jump out of the water all the time and get stuck on the lid of the tank, and my puffer throws a fir because he can see them, but can't get to them. -_-;;

Well I will have to try and feed the porc ghost shrimp. She loves real shrimp and I have to cut it into small pieces because I'm afraid that she will choke on it! I have started to soak everything in vitamin C so that she can get stronger and hopefully better. Shes going into the qt this weekend and starting treatment!

Well, if you get a young one, I would suggest starting them out in the brackish condition you get them in (assuming it's already cycled), and slowly bring up the salinity to marine over the next year. You can place young GSPs into full marine, but it's usually recommended to let them grow up a little, first (until they are around 1.5 to 2 inches, at least). So, if you do like I did and end up buying a GSP/Ceylon that's already around 1.5 inches, you can either drip them SLOWLY into marine, or set up the tank as brackish and increase the salinity by 0.001-0.002 per week until you hit marine, and then just add in some cured live rock.

i don't quite understand the question...

the GSP is in a tank with a ceylon puffer, they are still in 1.010 SG as i'm lazy ... so no, the porc is in separate marine tank ..
or are you asking what puffer is in the other picture, in my avatar... in which case it's a stars and stripes puffer, arothron hispidus..

or did you mean something else entirely?

t1gerbee what size tank is your porc in? i just have a hard time putting him in a 60G for 1-2 years, i guess i just need somone that knows what he is doing to say, "that sounds good"
