Burmese Dragon Puffer

just purchased a pair of these
anybody know anything about them?
would like to breed them, feeding them frozen krill, occ. ghost shrimp and soon black worms
any info would be great
are these the same as the "humpback" puffers from other nearby countries?
the male does have a large hump

You might be able to if you get really lucky and have really mellow puffers. Otherwise any other fish will become lunch.

Including each other. Puffers are difficult to keep together, even when they are the same species. Some should only be put together for breeding & then seperated again. Since this species requires a 40g tank, I would hope you have them in a tank at least 2x that large. They should have a LOT of cover & seperate caves (a flowerpot will do) on opposite sides of the tank. Keep a close eye on them & have another tank to seperate them if necessary.

currently I have a 175 gallon bow front divided in half, on one side is a Mbu puffer, polipteros, red tailed shark, the other side, separated by a piece of plastic that the fish can't see through ( may change to a grid that they can see through as it is stiffer), my 2 Dragon puffers and 1or 2 spiney face?? plecostomos
the 2 Dragons sit all day but at night the female is very active. the female sits by the glass in front and the male is in the back behind a few large rocks and artificial plants, they can't see each other in these positions
Ifeed them 2-3 krill frozen cubes/day, getting snails/ghost shrimp and black worms soon
I have many questions: is this set up ok, are they going to breed and how the heck would I know if they did? do they lay eggs that are visible, do I remove the eggs from the tank immediately if they do
what can I do to make them breed other than playing some Sinatra

How big is the mbu? Your set up is definately not OK, IMO. Please read the mbu article above.

Agreed your setup is not ok at all. Your 175 isn't big enough even if the mbu had the whole tank to itself. They require 1000g tank in the long run. This is why it is really important to not do impulse buy's and do your research before you purchase any livestock. Really bothers me when people buy fish and don't have a clue about them and how big they get. What you need to do is either get rid of everything in the tank and house only the Dragon Puffers or upgrade and get a way bigger tank

all of the puffers are very small now, but in long run will have to get rid of one or two of puffers and get bigger tank

Who are you to put down him? Please tell us all the credentials you hold as a fish expert? Did you study marine biology? The betting man will bet on NO, so why dont you stop flaming someone for trying to do the right thing. The LFS is to blame where he purchased the MBU, not him. He went in and more than likely fell in love with the Puffer like most of have done, purchased it, then came here when his LFS had no info to let him know.

And you act no better Buddha spewing your flame. You don't need to have a degree to do the research to find out what requirments a fish needs. ETB did the right thing asking. This board is not negative in the least. So someone is passionate about the req of a fish. I do not see this as flaming. I feel very much the same way taureandragon76 when I go into a fish store and come home with tons of misinformation.

Wasn't flaming anyone, and I don't think the OP took it that way either and if so then I apologize. Just an opinion that I believe many share. Also yes, all fish that I purchase that I don't know about I research first. I never used to research until I became involved with the different fish forums on the net and then you learn that one of the biggest keys to keeping fish is "research". With it you will be far more sucessfull and have happier fish.
