Valentini Feeding

Post by blondenblue »

Hi, i have just got a valenti called Pob, i have fed it on brine shrimp tonight and it has eaten stupid and is now got a lovely pop belly. I was wondering what else would be good to feed it? do they eat bloodworm? mussel? cockle? any advice would be very much appreciated
Thanks

There's very little goodness in brine shrimp, so best to keep them to an occasional treat. They're kinda like junk food for fish ;)

I have a papuan sharp-nose Canthigaster papua myself, so care requirements are essentially identicle to the valentini. Personally I find he loves regular prawns/shrimp (I cut these up to small peices and leave the shell on to give his teeth something to chew on) and mysid shrimp. Frozen and freeze dried krill are also good (I would avoid feeding freeze dried on a daily basis but keep as a dry backup food). Other seafood will be suitable also, mussels, cockles, squid, octopus, fish (good idea to freeze anything bought fresh to kill parasites). Just keep in mind not to feed to heavily as like all puffers sharpnoses will eat to excess and heavy feeding can lead to pretty fast deterioration of water quality.

I feed my valentini mysis and brine shrimp, clams, mussels, and the occasional crab and shrimp except i think he is now invert and coral safe because i have both in there with him and he doesnt go for them or at least no bites. He will always inspect though.
