Full Marine to Brackish......

Post by lferg »

I have my GSP in full marine where he has been happily for about three or months now. My problem is that he finally realized that he can eat $60 worth of cleaner shrimp.... So I want him in my 36 tank now but it is FW. I was thinking I would change it to BW tank but I don't know how to do that with out killing off all the bacteria in the tank and waiting for new to grow...... What is the process?

he is right raise the SG by .002 a week, but if you need to move him then you can acclimate him down to a lower SG as long as you do it VERY slowly. i took my GSP from 1.018 to 1.002 with and hour drip system,

so if you wanted to go from full marine down to 1.002 you could just set up a bucket with a heater and an air stone and do a drip for like 2 or 3 hours, put a bunch of full marine water in a large bucket then start dripping in 1.002 water and as it gets full slowly start removing 1/4 of the water until the SG gets down to around 1.002.

either way unless you want to wait 10 weeks to get the salinity up near 1.020 your gonna have to acclimate him but the longer you wait the less stressful the acclimation, but either way onces he's in the tank you can continue to raise the salinity to were you want it.
