puffer hunting styles

Post by roudm »

I was just at the local fish store and I noticed that a certain type of puffer fish was scanning the bottom of the tank and occasionaly blowing water into the sand to look for food. I used to have a narrow-lined puffer and he never did anything like this. Does anyone know what kind of puffer fish do this?

I believe most active hunters do it. I have seen GSP, F8, Mbu, Fahaka and others do it, either personally or in videos.

My Arothron Meleagris blows the sand in my system all the time. It ressembles the craters on the surface of the Moon. I have started to hide small shellfish under the sand, to reward him for his efforts, because that is what he is searching for.

My porc and my stars & stripes both do this. I never noticed my GSP's doing it.

I wish our porc would blow sand, my humu does, well he used to and then he found a sweet new home in a nice piece of live rock, he had to dig the rock out it was very fun to watch!
