I wouldn't be surprised if you were right groov, I've heard of puffers getting eaten by sharks and chewing their way out of the shark before they could get digested. I'm not sure if it's true but it wouldn't surprise me.

well, i'm happy to report that all is well in the tank of chaos, everyone seems to be adjusting to the new environment just fine, one other question though, i thought that the gsp didnt actually "puff" past filling the little white under part with air...but i saw above that nick wrote that these little guys actually have spines?

all puffers have spines they just normally stick flat to them and a puffed gsp will look like a typical puffed fish you could think of but pps right check out the article

The spines are quite visible and fine and pointed when the puffer is inflated - they inflate all over, top and bottom, into little balls.

so listen to this: my friend put a gsp in this little 10gallon fresh water with mollies and other tidly wink fish and it looks way more stoked than mine does in its huge tank! he swims all around and has fun and is active and very brightly coloured while mine just kinda sits there and is not as vividly coloured...my gsp doesnt act like he likes me hahahaha

I gave Harry [GSP] some ghost shrimp "friends" and he seemed a lot more happy after that. I've been switching tanks around so I had to get Harry some new gs. I'm not chasing his others down in that 75gal. The new friends are in a seperate tank right now becasuse the store that they came from didn't have healthy water. I can't wait to give them to Harry. Maybe you should get your little fella some friends. We feed Harry well so he never wiped the tank out. After weeks he still had 9 out of 12 ahrimp. We thought he'd eaten more than that until we started breaking his tank down. He sure loves the hunting rituals even if he is too full.

Someone had a theory about very small puffers not knowing how to change color, like it's a learned trait. The puffer won't survive in the tank your friend has it in. You should tell her to upgrade him to a 30gallon brackish tank or find him a new home, it's not fair to let the fish suffer in an unsuitable environment.

I agree. I believe that's when they are happiest and why they go up and down the sides of the tank. They're used to non stop swimming and hunting. When Harry hunts he turns so dark that we can't see his spots and his eyes turn so blue that they look like they're glowing. It's really somethng to see. I feel real sorry for him right now because he doesn't have anything to hunt so he's back to going up and down the sides.

So far 2 of the ghost shrimp have died and a 3rd doesn't look good at all. I've read that they don't pass disease on to fish but I'm not taking any chances.

I think our puffers live to hunt.
