Monster GSP

So there is this monster Gsp at the lfs and my boyfriend really wants him to go into the salt water tank. I think he would look great in there to. The only problem is when we tried this before the puffer freaked out and won't eat in the salt water. I acclimated him for at least 2 hours! I think the salt level on his other tank was 1.012 or something which I didn't find out until later since my hydrometer got stepped on setting up the salt water tank. I just got a new phone and took some pictures and I will try and post them. My question is, how should I go about this again? I know they are in freshwater right now meaning they are gonna die because they are about 2 1/2 to 3 inches and fat! My tank is at least 1.10 right now and I don't really want to lower the salt since that seems like a waste. I have read on other forums that people have tried acclimating them directly to salt it just takes a while. Please help me on this he really wants a monster gsp!

I have found little trouble acclimating over a couple hours. What do you mean the SG in your tank is at 1.10? That's completely uninhabitable, a dense brine, you must have typoed. Shakespeare has been in full marine since he was about that size.

Sorry about 1.010. Its kinda low. I know I don't want to acclimate him in a few hours. How do I get him to 1.010 from fresh water? My salt water tank is at 1.024.

can you put him in a big bucket full of LFS water and drip the salt water in over 24 hours... put in a heater, airstone and have a makeshift lid on...

then syphon drip marine tank water in (put a knot in the pipe to slow the dripping)


do not feed during this time, to avoid polluting the bucket..

should work ok, although it is still a risk that he won't like it too much..

yea the longer you can make the acclimation the better, i took my GSP from 1.016 to 1.002 in a 1 1/2 hour acclimation and he wasnt to fussy afterwards but going from freshwater to full marine you need to make it as LEAST three hours but the longer the better i mean i would try and do what T1gerbee said. i mean if you cant get LFS water at least make more freshwater from your home and then acclimate as long as you can in the largest bucket you can, and he should be fine.

cobra.. why did you take your GSP from high brackish to almost fresh? Did he have ich? Can't think of a another reason why you would do that?
