Tito's (GSP) new tank and Bullet proof hood...

Post by cobra1713 »

here are some pics of tito's (my 2.5 inch GSP) new 30 gallong tank and my homemade lexon bullet proof hood. it was made from a piece of lexon bullet proof plexiglass that my brother got from his job as scrap just big enough to make into a hood for the tank.

Could be grumpy because he's still getting used to it?

Used to the tank in general... but yes, a clear top if he is not used to it might be weird for him, too.

I like the clear top. They look very nice. I've seen some in my fish magazines. Is the material your brother used safe to use w/ fish do you know? I wonder if clear tops stay looking good w/ time. Nice substrate too. One of my gsp's would go dark a lot in the new tank for a couple of months when resting. Make sure you keep your eye on the water parameters regularly. Have you already started adding marine salt yet?? I may have missed it somewhere.

Tito's tail is awesome and that little fry is a cutie!

I have a clear hood on my 55g GSP tank and the only problem is keeping it clear from salt crust. A quick wipe usually does it but the salt can really limit the amount of light that gets in.

Maybe try adding a background onto the tank, and give him 3 or 4 snails to munch on. If his belly goes white when you're feeding him, it's possible that he's just being grumpy. If it's still black, you'll have to figure out why he's not happy.

Some thoughts:
- Did you add a newer/brighter light than before? Some GSPs really prefer the darker/moderate lighting, and too much light can make them unhappy. I mention this because it looks like he's sitting in the shade.
- Try adding a ceramic pot (the little orange ones) and see if he's just wanting a cave to hide in. Often times fish are insecure if there aren't a lot of places to hide (especially if they're new to the tank).
- Try increasing the salinity over the next several weeks to around 1.012 SG. Larger GSPs (over 2 inches) should be in that range.

Not sure what else it could be if the water seems fine.

I guess that guy running around shooting puffers isn't getting to Tito.

thanks yea he's safe from attacking helecopters...

the lighting might be it, he was never in front of the window, and now he is so maybe the window light is getting to him, ill try keeping the window shut and see if he perks up, and ill grab a pot too. and yea i was planning on bringing the salinity up as quick as possible.

i noticed him perking up a little bit today, he got that puffer beg going today so i was happy.

Yeah, if he's *anything* like my two Ceylons, he just hates being moved around. I rearranged half of my 55 gallon (and not even the half that they use), and they've been cowering in the corner for two days now. It happens *every* time I move something. :P
