2 Puffers missing
2 Puffers missing
Hi everyone, I just cleaned my puffer tank and had to rearrange some plants in the 50 gallon and I can only find 3. I looked in the filter, intake valves and nothing, when I did a vaccum I didn't find any bodies. I wonder what is up. I notice one puffer had already established a territory, I thought it was a female because it was rounder. I wonder if she killed and ate them or they are just very good hiders. I am going to add more plants soon and also add more females in a week, The tank is almost too big to appreciate them

Re: 2 Puffers missing
I'm assuming they're Dwarf Puffers? They're pretty good at hiding, and if they're stalking some prey, there's a chance you wouldn't see them. Hopefully they're still there, though!

i hade a bgk disapeer on me while i was cleaning my tnak it wasnt any where to be found it got so bad i had to look around the tank to make sure it didnt jump out but he came out again when i let the tank settle in try looking again and see if you can get a new number
Re: 2 Puffers missing
Thanks they are dwarf puffers, I let things settle and fed them and still didn't see them. They are the 2 skinny ones I thought were males, maybe they were just sick and died and somehow are stuck somewhere, I will keep an eye out. Hopefully they are just hiding

50G is pretty big for a dwarf puffer tank.... they are soooooo tiny!
what are your parameters.... let's check everything is stable before you add anymore puffs... especially if you have lost two...
the weaker ones will always succumb first to toxins in the water etc...

Re: 2 Puffers missing
Well I haven't seen my dwarf in about a week, but other people in the house have, so I know he's still around.

I lose my dwarf's all the time but I usually find them in a plant. Like really far in a plant and they are so small that they look like little rocks!

The water parameters are fine,I have been fish keeping for over 20 years, I tested and everything indicates the tank is fully cycled, I still only see 3 when I am feeding, do males tend to hide more? Also for those who feed frozen blood worms, do you give a full cube or just part. I thaw mine and just put it in the tank. The 3 come and eat the other 2??? I have noticed the snails are disappearing.

Re: 2 Puffers missing
well maybe the 2 are more timid so they are liveing off snails or left overs i would go as much as they will eat in 3 or 4 minutes so probaly a whole cube couldnt hurt ( sounds like you have alot of hungry fish in that tank

I give about 3 worms per puffer.

Re: 2 Puffers missing
You could thaw half a cube and add that to the tank then if they eat that thaw the other half and feed them that. I feed my puffers one cube but I space it out between my 3 tanks and then feed about 2 cubes for the salt water tank. It just depends on how much they eat, and maybe a full cube isn't a bad idea if you can't find 2 of them since they might be eating when food floats by their hidy hole.

Thanks I will try it, I have noticed that one has already establish his territory, I imagine when I add more I should add more plants and rearrange things so it is new to everyone and they can find new territories
