Post by yoshisdad »

I just picked up 5 for my cycled 50 gallon tank, I caught 2 of them biting a snail. They only had 5 so I got them all, I think I got 2 males and 3 females. here are some pics

Yeah, no need to add aquarium salt. I've heard of a couple places doing that, but I'm not sure why. It *can* help some fish, but it's not really recommended, I don't believe.

They look very cute! :)

The aquarium salt if dosed like the box says doesnt really doesnt hurt, i do add a little when a fish gets stressed for whatever reason or if it has a little fin nip (but not needing melafix) not really sure if it does help but havnt seen any negative effects, just dont keep adding it unless you do water changes because like marine salt it doesnt evaporate. and also add it mixed in with water because it can burn the fish.

the LFS was prob thinking they were a brakish puffer which requires marine salt.

They ate their blood worms at least some, how often should i feed them, I was thinking twice a day but they have snails so maybe once a day. I saw them picking on snails and also at the plants and wood, They are swimming around more. The are dwarf puffers right? They were labled as pea puffers, One is much lighter than the others. I am not sure if it si more stressed or sick or what. I plan on getting maybe 2 more females once more come in

Thanks, I had it set up for some tropical fish but transfered them to a 125 gallon. I need more plants for the puffers, I will probably check the local fish shops this weekend and this time I don't have to try to pick of snail eggs  When feeding should I give them a whole cube of blood worms or just a 1/4 of it, I don't want to over feed them. I do a vaccum and 1/3 water change once a week
