I was wondering what color of substrate is best with the DP's? I've only saw baby DP's and they were all brown with the blk spots, but I've read they're colorful. I'm assuming the color comes with age????
So anyway, I'm thinking a natural sub. might just wash them out, like they'd blend in and not stand out. Is this right?
I'm thinking maybe I should go with black gravel?? Black background?? What do ya'll think? I know they need heavy planting.
I'm not to the point of wanting to fool with real plants yet. I usually go with a combo of plastic and silk. I've got some black sub here if I can find it. I swear I've got bags of rocks all over the house.
I just did a net search and the eco doesn't look that expensive depending on how much I would need. How much do you think?
I guess there are a few plants like the java fern that would grow pretty easy without a lot of work though. Right? I've got a list of some other plants that are supposed to be hearty. If it didn't take any more work than throwing them in there I might consider it.

Depth of substrate depends on plants. Some do well only with deep tapping root systems, some just need enough to anchor. Swords are the most common deep rooting plant. If you are planting wisteria, anubias, or a number of others, an inch should be enough.
