can melafix hurt?
Ok well i moved tito my GSp into his new 30 gallon about 3 days ago, well his stomach still seems kinda dark, he has a couple marks on his side that look kinda like scratches, and i noticed some poo that looked kinda stringy today. so all in all i was wondering could adding some melafix to the tank hurt? or well actually what would be the best thing to add to help with some scratches on his side and possible IP? but i dont want to do anything to severe cus he only had the stringy poo sign of IP and no other sign like the sunken stomach or not eating or anything like that.

Re: can melafix hurt?
From what I know melafix should not hurt the tank. I had to use it after adding bio spira to cycle my tank and I had no problems. What color was his poo? Hopefully he adjusts soon. It shouldn't take to long for him to feel comfortable. We moved our 2 little gsp's 3 times in a month with no problems except a dark belly when relaxing for the first few months w/ the larger gsp.

Re: can melafix hurt?
well actually afdter looking again the poo might have just had sand on it lol, but yea im hoping he brightens up soon if not i might add in some melafix....its really weird in his other tank he was a really bright neon green (that tank was 1.016) and when i put him in this tank his top half is really bright but its more like a forest dark green( this tank is 1.002 for now and raising .002 a week) i didnt know they could change the shade of the green as well as how bright and dull the green was. puffers amaze you ever day dont they. lol

Haha, that's good. I'd rather see sand then stringy clearish poop (bad news). GSP and other puffers are known to change color w/ moods. It's very cool if it doesn't worry you to death. Do you know what the scatches are from?

Re: can melafix hurt?
no i cant think of what would have caused them, it was a pretty smooth transfer between tanks, the only thing i can think of is when i was netting him into a container in his old tank (as ive heard never to net them into the air cus if they puff out of water it can hurt them, not sure if its true but didnt want to take a chance) he got a little mad and brushed up against the edge of the container but its not sharp or anything, then the whole time he was acclimating he was in a 5 gallon bucket which was smooth and couldnt scratch him and then getting him back into the container when really well. so idk unless he scratched him self in the tank im not sure, ill try and get a pic of the scratches later but i gotta get batteries for my camera lol

It's almost certainly the SG change. My GSP, even small ones, display better color and activity in saltier water. It should remedy as you increase the salt.

He'll probably look much better even at SG 1.005.
