Ok well this is my final idea for my gsp/marine tank.

Ok well i have a 30 gallon tank i am gonna start cycling for a marine tank and add in my GSP as he is being slowly raised to a marine salinity, i know the tank size is a little smal for the stocking but i want to try it and am planning on getting another tank for the marine fish soon.

30 gallon marine tank
35 lbs live rock
counter current protein skimmer (powered by rena air 300)
aqua clear 70 with bio sponges
penquin power head 1140
1 GSP
percula clown (idk ive heard i need a pair not sure)
Blue devil Damsel
2 firefish
bicolor psuedo
and the only other fish i would like is a goby or two but idk if it's possible with the GSP

Does that sound like it might be possible?

others are more experienced at marine and can probably confirm this better, but i think damsels can be very agressive... territorial and nippy!

oh really? dang that was the last one i figured would be a problem lol they look so innocent and cheap lol ill look into it but ur prob right....do you know any other fish that look like the blue tang sort of that dont grow out to be 12" ro are aggresive? my firlfriend wants a "dory" but thats a prob with a 30 gall tank that is already prob gonna be overstocked and need massiv awter changes all the time lol

Yea, Dory gets the size of a dinnerplate and needs a LONG tank for exercise.

but are theyre any other neon blue fish? i know the blue tang and the blue damsel. idk of coarse she likes the blue and yellow tang! lol i need cute looking small marine fish, that can hold their own with a GSP, i know im asking alot but hopefully a few will fit my criteria.

I think that stocklist would be pretty overstocked and you would struggle with nitrates.

Ive never kept a GSP but Ive read Pufferpunk say numerous times that if youre keeping one in a 30 gallon then that should be the only fish.

Clownfish dont need to be kept in pairs but if your GSP is aggressive then it might not be able to defend itself. Maroon clownfish are more aggressive than perculas, so that might be a different option.

Id skip the firefish, they are very mellow and timid and would get bullied by the other fish. I think the bicolor pseudo is a good idea, it will add colour and can be abit aggressive so will be able to stand up to the other fish.

If you are going to add these fish then make sure you do it VERY slowly. Start with the GSP then space them out, like one new fish every 2-3 weeks. Keep checking your nitrates once the tanks cycled to make sure they dont spike.

On Fosters and Smith they have these things called neon blue gobies and they are blue and black. They look pretty cool but I guess you would have to research them but I think they are peaceful but fast.

I strongly agree w/ Bonnie. You will be grossly over stocked. You are risking a lot if you put all those fish in a small 30g tank w/ a gsp. Personally I wouldn't.

well firefish adn damsel are off the list. and i think it wont be the permanent home for the GSP. i think i am gonna be looking for him another 30 gallon for when he grows bigger. but for now just have a few other fish in there to give a little bit more color.

why not start with a bigger tank, rather than have to get another for the gsp?

yeah the closer to 100 gallons the more you cna keep after about 60 theres tons of options

Get a 55 or a 75 and have more fun with it that way.

I agree with the above. But I have been considering turning my GSP's 30 gallon brackish tank into marine (right now it is about mid-brackish, planning to increase .002 per week), and I would really like to have a percula clown as well. I know even that might be pushing the envelope, but I also figure with at least 30lbs of live rock plus a protein skimmer, there should be more capacity with all the extra filtration.. so would it hurt to have one small marine fish with the gsp? Also, my GSP is only a couple inches at the moment, but this is it's long term home until maybe when I move out and have the room.

30g is the minimum tank size for a single GSP.
