so i think im going to rescue one today because he has been at my lfs for a half a year and when ever he is bought he is borough back because hes to aggressive ( but i know how to handle that hes getting his own tank) you know its always the ones i feel sorry for that i get ( like my clown knife and my bgk ) ( who where both in with the same monstrous African frog who they hid from to the point of starvation) but i always end up connecting with these fish faster pluse its sad to see him sit there hes beautiful so why not

Be prepared for eventual teeth trimming on this species. What size tank do you have for it?

which brings me to a question the guy at the store said to keep him really relay happy i should give him freeze dried foods but im a little biose agenst giving fish freeze dried anything is it ok to feed him snails shrimp and frozen foods ? ( dentistry is not to hard from what it sounds and he looks so happy im willing to do whats necessary to keep him

, feed him all the normal puffer fair suggested all over this site. I just got rid of a full grown specimen that I had for a few years. They're an interesting puffer.

there kind of plain but you know he has a charm to him im happy to add him to my fish "family" ... you know i dont know what to call them i feed them provide the best water possible spend time on or with them its not a collection ( even though some would call it)... odd isnt it

Wait, he's in the 20 Long at your house or at the LPS? I've seen a Modestus that was AT LEAST 4.5'' at my LFS....... I hope he went to a good home. If kept properly, these fish are pretty cool and active. Mine was always swimming all around my 55G, and (believe it or not) didn't bother any of the other fish, including a 6 or 7 inch tiretrack eel! Yeah, it was pretty weird, but I got him out of a 10G with another one. I've actually found that these fish tend to vary a lot. Mine was a community puffer (Yeah, it's an oxymoron). Also, PufferPunk's is full grown at 4'', if I'm not mistaken. I think that the reputation of the A. Modestus is a little extreme. I've been bit by my old one, but I've never heard of them killing tankmates. The A. Modestus and A. Silus are a little more laid-back than other puffers IMO.

no hes in my room safe feed and happy no more tank bouncing for him im gunna keep him ( but when you look at figure 8s takifugu mbu palmbag congo or even green spot there pretty plain ( i had a gold fish that looked like him once)

I have to disagree... these guys are really cool, they don't even look like a puffer! They look like some cool saltwater fish

well to each there opinion no matter how plan i still think hes cool the only thing i see thats weird is he has some really dark ( almost dirty looking white skin around his mouth ) im actually wondering if i can get him into my red eyes thank ( ill have to have a trial and error system going but i think it might work because my red eye is really really tame he was in my community tank for 6 hours while i set up his tank and no problems he seemed to stray away from every one else so im gunna get a 30 gallon and see if they can be friends)

I wouldn't chance it.... I started a thread about 3 weeks ago about keeping a red-eyed puffer in my 20G with my A. Silus, and TPF said no. Also, where do you live? I saw a Modestus with the black around it's mouth, but I live in SoCal. That was the 4.5 incher that I saw at SuperPets a while back. Anybody got any idea what this means? I've only seen it on that one puffer, but I guess it's common with Modestus'. Is it like a sign of stress, or a genetic thing in all Modestus'?

well i have a couple of laid back puffers so even though they say not to risk it im going to because they say alot of things wont work with puffers but i think its worth a shot if i see any aggression i will put it back but i would love to have one as qurintente tank

It is not necessary to have a QT tank running 24/7. You can just get some filter media from a different tank or have a sponge filter sitting in a bigger tank. I think that 10G is a great size for QT. Of course, I couldn't QT my barbs in there, but that's beside the point

well i have a few tens but im useing one to breed crickets one to breed snails i have my lizard in a 15 and my fish in there respective 20s 29s and 55s i dont have room for another tank in anywhere

pluse with my lunar lights i will havea active tank 24/7 ( my red eye is nocturnal )

What happened to that 6'x3'x2' that you were gonna get for the full grown knife? That'd be a great tank for bigger fish.
