just seen them at LFS...

anyone know anything about them? needs? Lighting? will they grow into massive mangrove trees if left unchecked?

If they are live, not only will they grow fast, they will expand forcefully enough to split your aquarium open if you don't keep close track of the root growth and expansion.

i did wonder... i've been to the everglades!


So not an option then, or can you 'bonsai' them.. ie.. control growth by trimming/hacking/restricting growth somehow?

You can probe for roots bracing against the walls regularly and trim them when they do.

i was thinking how amazing it would look to have mangrove roots with my gsp and ceylon...

i could drop the water level a bit so the tops stuck out of the water, and create a proper brackish stream look...


get slack and your tank busts open though... eek!

I wonder where I can get some, they'd have to be tall.. wouldn't want to float them in polystyrene...

I haven't seen them for sale often around here, but maybe you can ask a LFS if they carry them or if they can refer you to someone that does have them.
