Feeding puffers while away

Post by PufferGrrl »

Everything I've read so far and the experience I've had with my F8 is that puffers don't eat flake food, only real food, which is what I've been giving my puffer. My question is, when I go on vacation, how do I feed my puffer? I could put flakes in an auto-feeder with other types of fish, but with my puffer I feed freeze dried food and right now he's a baby, so I end up having to scoop what's left out after he's done. I could do blood worms in a feeder I suppose if I had to. Just wondering what other people have done.

Thanks!

If he's small, bloodworms will be ok.

Another suggestion might be to find a bunch of Ghost Shrimp and snails to put into the tank (you'll need something that can survive brackish conditions, though), which can lend a hand to your puffers being fed. :) It might be a bit expensive, but it's better than a poor, starving puff! ;)

My puffers eat freeze dried plankton, so I have that doled out in Dixie cups for my neighbor to drop in every other day.

My puffers LOVE plankinton and krill.. do you find the plankinton in sort of a "crouton" form? (just a bunch of them together? I like the krill because they're individual pieces. I have to cut off pieces of the krill because my puffers are still very small and they don't eat the whole thing. They also love the bloodworms, but I know that doesn't have the substance they need for their everyday meal.

Thanks!
