Can DP's Eat till they burst?

Post by blondenblue »

I know this sounds really silly but i have 3 dp's one of them is really greedy, tonight when i fed them their blood worm she ate loads. looks like she's gonna pop. has a ridiculous sized belly on her which kinda bulges all up her sides. Can they eat enough to harm them??? how can i stop her eating as much but still let the other too get enough if i reduce how much i give them????

Cheers
Lisa

She can indeed actually burst herself, though that's very very rare. More likely she'll just get health problems from obesity over the long term. You can try feeding the others on the opposite side of the tank, if you can lure them there.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Another trick is to try to section them off using a fish net. Just keep the net against the glass (with the puffer inside and still completely submerged) and feed the others until they get enough, then release.

yeah seprate feeding is the only way really, though they may get wise to the net coming in after a while. I would try to feed into different areas of the tank

was it more like a "leader of the tank i eat before everyone" or she was just overeating?

i had the same problem and i noticed my valentini didnt like certain foods the other fish did, so i fed them first, then the valentini, so the other small fish didnt need to worry about not getting anything.

i had a small tank so spacing off for eating didnt work.

she seems to be the least shy of the 3 but i have loads of snails in the tank now and she seems to snack on them so when we feed the bloodworm shes less greedy for it now, the others have also got alot braver and are eating more so it seems to have all evened out!
