C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
I'm sure we all know how cute puffers can be, and I saw some of these puffers at the LFS that I'm trying to get a job at. The problem is that they have ich, and I'm obviously not going to get a sick puffer or make a "rescue". However, when the ich clears up (+ waiting for about a week), I would like to purchase one of these little guys. Another problem is a shortage on tanks. Obviously, one can't go in the 100G, no more fish in the 10G, and I doubt he will work well in the 55G community. So, I have 3 options.
1) Set up the 10G that I have that is currently empty, although I don't know if one will fit.
2) Put him in the 20G with the Silus and the 3 Zebra Danios.
3) Not get one at all.
Sorry if there's an obvious solution, but I have no idea about the temperment of this type of puffer, and I wanted to try something new. The PufferPedia said that they had varying temperments, but I wanted some additional info from some of the experts. Also, I wanted to set up the 10G with about 15 Neon Tetras and a Betta, but I can throw that out the window if I get one of these guys. So, is the 10G too small? Will he bug the Silus? Should I forget about it? Thanks!
PS: Is there a rule about fw puffer compatibility, or does it vary from puffer to puffer? I think I heard somewhere that for sw puffers it's one spiny + on smooth per tank, but I was just curious about the freshwater puffers. Thanks again!

I've heard that Neons get kinda ugly after they grow up, so you might want to look into Cardinals instead. As for the Irrubesco question, I wouldn't get it unless you're going to set it up in a 20 gallon. I don't know how this species gets along with other puffers, so I can't answer your question about putting him in your current 20 gallon.

I'm leaning towards 3.

Medicinal.... I think that they seperated the tank from the rest of the system. I'm not sure what type of filtration they use (EG 1 sump with 10 heaters in it, etc.), but I'm gonna have to find out.

Yeah, that's why I'm not gonna buy any right now. Perhaps they sold them to you before they knew they had ich? Or maybe you got a bad salesman, because the people I know that work there would not sell you a fish with ich. When did you get them? Sorry about the fish....

Re: C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
around 5 days ago...i call the guys about 1 hour ago and asked for the manage. He says to bring them back in a zipper bag and additional bag with just water so he can test it. The he will give me store credit. I was like what the????? Told him i didnt want to return the fish and im trying real hard to save the little guys in my QT right now and i dont want refund or swap the puffers. He probably thougth im the one who's killing the fish. I told him my tanks have no fish in it before but guess he didnt believe me but whats the point with me bring a bag of water. If im lieing or if he think i have ichs in my water i can just ba water from my established tanks or get it from my frinds fish tank which i know is clean. ANd how can he test ichs in water anyhow. Im kinda upset over this. I laso told him is there another way to resolve this issue. He just keep saying to bring th fish and a bag of water we'll go from there. BAD LFS!!!

Re: C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
If it was 5 days ago, then they probably sold them to you without seeing the ich. I'm sure you didn't see it either when you made the purchases, so neither people are to blame there. As for the handling of the situation, exactly what do you want them to do? I mean, (and I'm not being condescending), it's not like ich can be just waved away with a magic wand. They are no doubt losing money through an investment in the puffers, and they are trying to do the best they can to deal with the situation. I have had to deal with LFSs that have weird policies. For example, there's one that says that once the fish leaves the store, there's no going back on the sale, even if it dies in the car! No, I don't work there yet, but I'm filling out an application for a job there, and hopefully, I can help them manage the fish situation(s). There's a TSN that is gonna bust everything in there, and I hope it goes to a good home. Anyway, good luck with the puffers, hope they get better.

Re: C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
I understand what u saying groovey dude but ich doesnt just break out like that. I sould quarantine incoming puffers/fish from whole seller not immadtely put in display tanks and start selling. If the ich is not coming from the whole seller is probaly poor condition water in the tank. Im not trying to get a refund or exchange of the fish as i wrote before. I just want them to be more careful. What happen if is a gift to a dear firend of yours or family member. You be a little upset that LFS sold you sick fish. One of the reason i dont want to exchange because they already under going tretment and last but not least the male Irrubesco and i got some kind of bond. Even tho is been 5 days but i feel like he's my friend. I feel like a little child again and i be 34 in May..lol

Re: C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
I see what you're saying. The fact is, once you have a fish with ich, there's very little that the store can do for you except take it back for store credit. All of their puffers in that tank have ich, so they can't really get you a healthy one right now. At least they offered to take them back. It's a family run business, and I trust them for the most part. I'm almost completely sure that they got the ich from the supplier because it's only in certain tanks. As you pointed out before, you don't want a refund, so they are being QTd right now. I doubt that they would sell you a fish intentionally, knowing it had ich. It happened once to us there. We were about to get a kuhli loach, but then one of the employees told us that there had been a tetra with ich in that tank earlier that day. So, I don't think it's the LFS that's bad, I think that it's just an unfortunate situation. Wrong place and the wrong time....

If you start working there i hope you can help to improve the incoming fishes health. I laso seen a few tanks that they got have sick fish in it but anyway. My Irrubesco still sitting in the bottom of the tank breathing hard. I hope they come around tomorrow morning. Crossing my finger.

Re: C. Irrubesco/ Red-eyed Puffer
Yeah, I hope that I can add something. No LFS is perfect. Keep in mind that an ich outbreak can affect hundreds of fish in a given store if they are not careful with QTing them. Good luck with the puffers. Maybe you could come over some time so you could see that I'm not an irresponsible fish keeper like some believe
