Arothron hispidus. Growth rate? (yunchin?)

My stars and stripes was no more than 2 cm three months ago...

now i swear he/she's almost two inches long.... (and is staring at me as i type)

s/he is growing at an alarming rate, does anyone else have one, how fast are they growing....

(yunchin- has yours grown alot?)


I'm hoping to keep him/her in the 60G til i get back from honeymoon then move all the tanks round, but at this rate i could be in trouble, or will he/she slow down a bit....

It was really tiny, it will probablly slow down a whole lot soon.

Yeah cowfish do that sometime. Grow six inches in their first year of life and then may only grow 2 inches the next.

How about posting some updated pictures of the little guy/gal. Does it still have that beatuiful black color or is the color changing with the growth spurt?

Mine grew very fast also. Below is a picture when I first got her in June, '07. She was probably about 2 inches. That's 1/2 inch PVC.



Here's a more recent picture (not a great one though). She's about 6 or 7 inches long now. In the picture that's the same 1/2 inch pvc about 8 inches behind her. She'll be going into a 125 by June.

When I got mine it was about 4 inches long..now he is about 6 or 7. That was over the course of 3 or 4 months. I do agree that now that they are larger that the growth rate will slow down, but they do get massive! I have a friend that has one that is a good 18 inches long.
Pristine water and good feeding does aid in fish growth so you may be doing the perfect thing!
