GPS Love Earthworms!

Earthworms are excellent for stimulating a puffers interest if they haven't strted eating. I use them are newly aqiured puffers who refuse to eat. They haven't failed yet to entice a puffer to attack.
Only feed sparingly though and as a treat.

Bewarned though I lost a worm in the substrate of a tank and found it still alive two months later.

I was just wondering - If any of you have ever lived in Vegas, you would know the worms here aren't worth anything. They are small and wimpy pretty much useless in the rock hard dirt out here.

My boyfriend fed his gsp's earthworms and then went to sleep since he had just gotten off work and he woke up to find them both dead When we cleaned the tank out we found 2 earthworms still alive! I don't know if this is true but I think the worms had dirt on them (they were from the lfs) and that introduced bad bacteria and killed them.

I feed mine fish store worms all the time, but I usually rinse them off. Worms will survive a long time in well aerated water. In my tank there is all out puffer warfare over those worms, there is no scrap left.

See his puffers didn't seem to like them. We only put 2 in there only because we thought the puffers had eaten the first one. We saw the puffers at the lfs tear one up it was fun it watch! Oh one of my lfs tells me that their puffers are leopard spotted puffer is this the same as a gsp? They look the same.

I gave Bonzo his first earth worm the other night... what a reaction, the only other time I saw him like that was after cherry shrimp which he finds hard to catch.

I have a wormbin for compost (it's redworms, a little smaller than earthworms and, as the name says, red because their blood has hemoglobin like ours... good source of iron!). I tried to feed my DPs with baby ones, so about the size of a bloodworm... didn't work! I think they are too used to dead bloodworms.. it was wriggling when it was caught and the puff almost swallowed it all, then I saw it's belly wriggle and the puff threw it out! lol Didn't like to have his belly tickled from the inside I guess! The puff were pretty young though, I should try it again!

I've just ordered 125g of red worms off ebay, thought I'd give them a try, if they don't like them, it's only a couple of quid spent so nothing lost.
will still feed him a couple of algae shrimp once a week though, and also need to order some more snails, but really looking forward to seeing him get all up on those little wrigglers

A little off topic, but if you guys want to know how to built a wormbin where to keep your redworms so they can reproduce and compost your veggie left overs at the same time let me know, we can start a new topic!

I try to keep nightcrawlers around here at all times. All the puffers love them, fresh or marine.

That said, its not the main diet.. but its a very quick and easy feeding (vs thawing out a shrimp, etc).

i have fed my GSP earthworms strait from my garden and he loved them! I gave him the smallest ones i could find and there was no problem with him spitting them out or anything like that. I of course make sure that all the dirt is off of the worms before i put them into my tank so as not to introduce any unwanted bacteria or small bugs.
