Would a GSP be ok in a 2 1/2' tank. y'think?

Post by Ikkle1 »

I'd like to get my 5 footer back to a community tank, or maybe try Oscars in it.

At the mo, Buffy has it all to himself, and he does kind look "lost" sometimes.

I've just gotten a 30" tank, do you think he'd be ok in that (once it's cycled properly)?

It would free up the bigger one for something else.

Do you know how many gallons it is?
If you don't, what's the lengthxwidthxheight?
A regular 30" tank is normally a 29gallon, so unless your tank has crazy dimensions, it should work fine.

No, sorry I don't.
length 30" x depth 14" x height (to max water level) 18"

Thanks

but he'd have to be by himself, cause the recommended minimum is 30 :)

Actually, I wouldn't recommend a 29 for a GSP long term.

The name "29 gallon tank" is misleading.. those dimentions physically only hold 24 or 25 gallons. The tank builders just renamed it to "29" to make it easier to tell it apart from the other common 25 gallon tank size/shape, while making it look more appealing to customers.

So 25 gallons, minus room for decor, you're really not providing the puffer with anywhere near the 30 gallons it *should* have.

No worries, Buffy is staying in the 5 footer for now -- seemed cruel to move him to somewhere so much smaller.

Have acquired a 6 footer, which is cycling now, which will be used for the community tank possibly.
