DOGFACE, VALENTINI, AND HAWAIIAN SPOT, NEED A DIET

haa yea so i want to get more involved with the feeding on my puffs, up until now its just standard krill and sillversides. but ive heard there is so much more out there are far as - crabs shellfish conch snails slugs crays , just market meat, or even tilapia (where do i get it) and where do i get anyof this stuff and make it safest for my fish.



just educate me...tell me what ya know

I buy clams, mussels and shrimp from the grocery store. Then I freeze them and when ready to use them I defrost in tank water and vitamins. I also feed squid, snails and some veggies pellets that my other SW fish get (since the valentini needs some seaweed in his diet)

I wouldn't suggest feed any meat and I believe you can feed small amounts of tilapia but really there are better things to be feeding that are just as available.

I too, keep mussels, clams and shrimp in the freezer for feeding. Whenever I need to feed, I take out what I need and defrost it then they enjoy a hearty meal.
Every once in a while they may get one piece of krill as a treat, but not very often as it's not very good for them.

I've found a seafood wok-mix in a grocery shop, and that one is a tresure when feeding puffers. It's frozen, raw food, and contains squids/octopus, shrimps, clams/mussels and some other stuff. Those things are normally difficult to get around here, and usually is pretty expensive. But this wok-mix is pretty cheap, and lasts for a very long time (I haven't used half of my first pack yet). My puffers just looove it, except for the octopus/squid arms, which proably isn't very easy to chew. Check out the freezers where the seafood is kept in the grocery shops. You can come across very nice puffer food!

I feed my Dogface coral frags several times a week. And apart from the usual shell fish diet, they do like to munch on Caulerpa! so its always handy to have some growing in your system.

i had been thinking about just growing caulerpa for a while now, i just find it beneficial. i dunno some people hate it. as for the seafood wok thing that is a great idea. so if i cant find the stuff i can ask them for a seafood "wok" mix? i probably sound weird but i dont eat seafood often hahaha


and on another note, i threw some shellfish in there today, they loved it. it was live too so they had a good time as well.

I bought a mix of forzen foods but there is "fake" crabmeat in there. What is that stuff exactly? There's also some kind of really tough white meat in there that no one likes to eat, not even my large FW fish.

I believe fake crabmeat is colored fish fillet scraps... thats what someone at a sushi bar that seemed to know what they were talking about said. Could the white stuff be octopus? THATS tough meat, I've eaten it myself as sashimi.

I feed my puffer, mussles, shrimp(frozen) , and the occasional crab.
I find when you soak mussles in a cup of warm water for about 10 min. they open by themselves.

this stuff is always in our house. it's good on salads or baked croissants. on the package it says "processed crab and/or cod" so there you go. we call it crab and/or cod btw.
