I hate seeing stores who don't want to take care of fish. I go to two local fish stores because they've always seemed to be really good at taking care of fish. Well, yesterday, I went there and saw three GSPs (about 1.5 inches) in a Freshwater setup, looking as black as they possibly could be. I talked to the guy squeegeeing the tanks, and apparently they got them in as Freshwater, know they're brackish, but don't plan on putting them in a tank. What a bunch of f***ers! I feel really bad, and I'm tempted to temporarily rescue the cute buggers, toss them in with my Ceylons until they recover a bit, and then find them good homes.

The thing is, they looking relatively healthy (decent bellies, still cruising around for food), but the guy was adamant that "they weren't going to last long."

Anyone think I should rescue them and rehouse them? I wouldn't even care if I *gave* them away to people who were going to look after them (in the sense of losing a few dollars), I just hate to see the cuties pass away due to ignorance. I'm really sad about them, but I don't want to take on 3 more GSPs when I know I don't have room for them (right now) in the long run...

PS - I have a 75 gallon that's technically empty, I just don't have filters for it. It was intended as an upgrade for my 55 gallon, but needs the overflow to be re-siliconed.

I'm quite impressed with my LPS's they have GSPs in brackish, it made me rather happy!
You could try it, if you have the money and sutff to d oit but there is a chance they are hopeless =(

Yeah, I'm a little pissed, because they're usually really good with puffers. However, I'm noticing that since it's spring, they're getting their first wave of puffers, and some of them look pretty bad. They had a porcupine in one of the SW tanks, and he was puffed up and sitting at the bottom of the tank. I felt bad for him, too, but there's no way I could house or afford a SW tank right now. That will have to wait until after I graduate and start paying off my loans.

If I over-filter one of my spare 20 gallons, could I temporarily house the 3 Green Spotted Puffers for recovery? I know all about the minimums and waste pollution, so I'm sure I'd be stuck with extra water changes, but I'd like to give these cuties a fighting chance, if possible.

I think I might have to abandon the idea, though, because I'm being harassed by roommates not to keep any more tanks...

if you 'rescue' them... all you are doing is telling the LFS it can get away with treating it's fish badly.... and even rewarding them by parting with your money..

not a good plan, but tough though.... know it's hard to be strong about it.

GSP are so common they're impossible to rehome. I got Shakespeare just to rehome him... we see how that went

*raises hand* I'd take one. I'm actually looking for a new GSP, but I think it's hard to send fish from Canada to the US.

Yea, its the local part that makes it really difficult.
