Any one got any ideas?

Any one got any ideas or advice? I have a "freshly" converted FW to BW tank. When I say freshly I mean its about a month or so into the conversion and it's a BW tank now. I have a Bio-wheel and a sponge filter. I don't want the sponge in there any more it's big and ugly. I am afraid if I take it out it will cut my biological filtration in half and be bad for the tank.. Is this the case? Or how do you guys hide yours? I have it hidden behind lots of fake plants but I am planning a "re-scape" to make it look more like a brackish environment.

I have never had a problem removing one of two filters. It's actually my standard procedure for quarantine, take one of a paired group off the main tank, pop it on the quarantine, instantly safe for the fish in quarantine. Then, if it ends up being sick, I'll just totally clean the filter before returning it to the main tank.

Cut it into little sections and hide it under the substrate?
