Green Spotted Puffers in a reef tank?

never thought about putting a gps in a reef tank... As for normal SW puffers, that is a big nono as most puffers love to chew on corals and inverts.

A lot of people have good luck keeping marine puffers in reefs. They just have certain things that they like to eat.

LOL. i have yet to test a shrimp on my puffer.

My puffer does not eat the corals. The Shrimp is still alive also. The Dottyback attacks it more than the puffer.

My GSP's ignore mushrooms, they love to eat soft sponges tho. Havn't tested other coral yet.

As I have mentioned - I always have been strictly a marine person - never really kept FW or brackish - so 'green spotted puffers' can be maintained in full marine saline? I was under the impression that their primary native habitat (at least in the most abundant numbers) was the amazon - which is of course fresh to brackish...news to me - I may do some research and begin to keep one..

When they are young we keep them in low end brackish but as they get older and bigger their salinity is raised. Some people just keep them in high end brackish but I think most just move them to full marine.

They've been collected from out in bays as well, occasionally, and have a VERY large range in the wild.

All three of mine have been in full marine for a while. My oldest is only about a year old. They have great color and seem more active then being in brackish. My specific gravity is 1.022.

Ok I may have been thinking of another species - watched a special the other night on science channel about where the amazonian puffer looked almost identical to Tetraodon nigroviridis - I'll look around...it was in the same area as the very small "vampire fish" lives (it attaches to other larger fishes gills and can occasionaly attach onto humans in the water...again forgive my lack of knowledge in the FW world...I will look around and see.
