Gold Ring Puffer?

Post by purplemagic00 »

Has anyone heard of a Gold Ring puffer? I was e-mailing a LFS about Figure 8 puffers. They said they where all out of F8P but that they had Gold ring puffers and peewee puffers. I assume that the peewee puffers are dwarf puffers. I have no clue what they could have meant by Gold Ring Puffers. I have done some searches on the web and came up with nothing. I am sure it must be a uncommon name. I really doubt a lfs in the middle of nowhere is going to get some rare mysterious puffer in. Any ideas what they could be referring to?

Sounds like a F8 actually, ask them to describe it better. Either way it might be worth a look

Well I plan to go and take a look next week. I will try to get some pictures of it with my camera phone. That way if it doesn't fit maybe we can get somone to id it properly. I was going to go anyways and check the store out apparently they have Bumblebee gobies and Freshwater flounders. Both where on my list to try and find. If they are in good condition I am going to buy a FF and a few BBGs. If nothing else I think it will be good for them to know the tank before I get 2 F8P.

It could also be an Mbu so make sure you get the info and pics and if you aren't sure don't buy it ;)

Well I checked out the gold ring puffer. Upon examination it looks to be either a banded puffer or a South American Puffer. Due to the size and if I can trust the store it should only be relatively the same size as a figure 8. With that info I am 90% sure it is a SAP. I wasn't abale to get a picture good enough picture to share. They had bad lighting conditions in the store. Either way I am glad I didn't just pick it up according to the pufferpedia if it is a SAP it needs freshwater which will not work for my brackish tank. If it happens to be a banded it would need a 100 gallon so my 30 will just not due. Too bad, I will continue the hunt for the F8P.
