Schoutedeni ?

Certainly no T. schoutedeni, this is a M. turgidus

That's a T. schoutedeni with the big mbu like caudal fin and the mottled coloration on top:

UMB, Is that a puffer you've actually seen? It hasn't been available in the aquarium trade for around 30 years, as far as I know.

yeah I'm with corvus on that one, though markings are similar the body shape is wrong for schoutedeni, I always hought they looked like "honey I shrunk the Mbu"

Ah! Thanks Corvus. That is what I thought. The pic I posted I couldn't tell what it was but i kinda assumed it was no Schoutedeni. The pic you posted I have seen before and to that is exactly what I trusted to be an actual Schoutedeni. Thanks for showing me what Turgidus looks like though, I was unsure.

No, I have not actually seen one. I would love too, but as you mentioned.. they disappeared from the aquarium world. I was curious because when I go looking for puffers, I never know who might be cleverly disguised in the mix. Now I know what to look for in a Schoutedeni. Not that I will ever come across one, but now I can at the very least pick one out of a crowd.

But I am still curious as to why we have not documented them in the pedia... even if they are rare. Ooo! I see why.. we don't have a picture that we can use, do we ? Dangit! lol.

It is kind of asking a lot, but could you guys send me any info you have on T. Schoutedeni ? Like from which waters the originate, is it FW/BW or SW. Stuff like that.

Like i said, I don't have one and have not seen a real one but you never know with these LFS's. You order a turkey and they deliver a Siberian tiger. But I do have this one guy who might just maybe be able to track one down. My only concern is simply... if he does happen to get one...wtf do I do with it ? lol. I don't know how big they get or anything really. I don't even know which water suits them best. 'Don't be scared, be prepared for the worst' thats my philosophy. If they are even close to Mbu size as adult, I'd rather pass... if you know what I mean.

So your saying that this has been bred before?

Yes, they have been bred, but there was no population established in captivity (e.g. like it was done with the red tail shark) and now we would need new imports.
