How have your perams been so far, and how big is he currently?
The sooner you can get him out the better, but I'm guessing around 1.5 feet you'll want an upgrade (which might be a challenge)

I do agree the sooner the better but if consider that Clooney grew to 17 inches in a tank smaller than yours in less than 3 years, but my nitates were constantly off the chart and over 120ppm I would look to build the tank as soon as you can and get it cycled and once the puff is about 10 inches move him across.

I'd also like to say though that we have very little info on Mbu so posting your water perameters and water change regime with reference to size would be really interesting. In theory once you start to see the nitrate levels rising you need to go for a bigger tank rather than bigger water changes. I think there would be quite a few people interested in learning more about Mbu as they grow as the information we have is only based on the opinions of one or two souls brave enough to open up to us

If he can compete in the other tanks and not get bullied, I'd put him in write away. Extra room is always good to have. Just to make sure there is no possible chance to stunt even, however slim. The success that you have with keeping fish, he might just get full sized! That would be quite a sight to see

Yeah I think that given your success with raising your other fish to good healthy sizes and a ripe old age I think you should follow your instincts with the Mbu.
