New to Puffer Forum! Love it!

Post by schlecht13 »

Hello! I am brand new this evening to the puffer forum and just wanted to say I am impressed with the articles and info. I look forward to posting many items and getting to know more people out there who love these adorable animals as much as I. I am currenty pursuing my PhD in Marine Biology and plan to complete my thesis on the shortened genome of the Mappa Puffer, Arothron Mappa.

Currently I have a 180 Gal tank with a Mappa, Hispidus (stars/stripes), Spiny Boxfish, Stellatus, A. Nigropunctatus (Black/Dalmation-mostly black), (2) very large, 6in Amphiprion Polymnous, Black/White (Sri Lankan variety), a beautiful "Honeycomb" puffer, Queen Angel and Niger Trigger. I know it sounds like alot but the 180gallons plus a 55 Gallon sump, big skimmer, lots of live rock and water changes and wow is everyone happy. Despite what I have read, my research and experience shows that these puffers really enjoy each others company.

Well its late, wanted to say hi and will post more soon.

Eric

I sure am - most are pretty small right now - I have had several puffers in the past - many lived 12-14 yrs. I took a hiatus due to studies but since I am now in research mode, I was able to obtain some new babies...

I will keep the 180, I have (2) more 180s ready to setup and a 220 currently cycling with LR - so probably another couple of weeks on that one. Not sure who I am going to move - they each have their own unique chracteristics and responses to each other so I am keeping a great journal and will decide who to move where then. In addition, I am moving to Fort Lauderdale soon - the 220 that is cycling is there of course and I'll get everyone ready to move soon...

Nice to have another scientist on board!

Ok - Despite my interests in Puffer research and scientific skills, I have yet to master photography - something I hoping I will get better at grad school goes along...so bear with the quality...
