Puffer Tanks

Post by antfony16 »

Im new to the boards and I was just wondering what kind of puffers/puffer tanks you got. I guess I'll start. Currently I have a 125 gallon tank with a dogface who likes to hide in my pirate ship. I have a porcupine who likes to puff randomly for no apparent reason every once in a while and I have a burrfish who I nicknamed retard because all he does is swim back and forth in the corner of my tank until its feeding time. What kind of tanks do you got?

[welcome] Welcome to TPF. This is a great place to learn, get help, and do that sort of stuff.

How big are your fish and what else do you keep with them? What kind of filtration do you have? How long have you had your fish? More details.

By the way, when the puffers get bigger they will need to be moved to a bigger tank.

I have a hawaiian and valentini toby in a 50g tank with a hippo and achilles tang. I plan on upgrading to a 120g in a few years.
i'm busy thinking of ways to remember what i was going to say

Burrfish struggle to acclimatise with captivity.. chave you got lots of caves, etc for him to play in?

Welcome to the forum.
Do you have a breeding pair of maroons in a tank with a porcupine puffer? How does that work out?

And I have more tanks that I need. ;)

I have 2 Ceylon puffers in a 55 gallon tank with a Knight Goby, and I *just* acquired an Abei Puffer, which is in a 28 gallon bowfront. :)

Right now I got a wet dry filtration system with a uv steralizer and I'm working on buying a lifereef protein skimmer, probably one that's set up for a 500 gallon tank without over skimming. As for the burr, ya I have a bunch of caves but he seems not to be interested in them. He's pretty healthy though, I watched him at the LFS for about 6 months making sure he was eating well and adapting to captivity, he's just not the smartest cookie in the jar though. And yes those are my pair of maroon clowns that I'm trying to get mate( I breed clowns on the side). They actually do really well in the tank with the puffers. Whether or not they'll mate I dunno, I was just experimenting with them.

I also breed clowns, not to get off topic though, I would be interested in talking about it. If you have a messenger service send me a PM here and we can exchange screen names.

Wow, no one bought it for that long. At least you know it will probably do well.
