Diodon Holocanthus in 200L tank?

Post by navy »

We have decided to go Marine, and we want soooo badly a porcupine puffer, but we know we could probably only get a Canthigaster Bennetti or something similar as our tank is only 300L, which is fine until we upgrade. Now I know so many websites, books etc tell you different figures but this site of one of my LFS http://www.bunarongaquarium.com.au/mari ... hp?FID=433 has recommended 200L-400L tank for Diodon Holocanthus??? That's a 200L difference, can they really thrive in 200L, won't they be stunted? Are they giving me false hope? lol

I know pufferpunk, but I guess I thought maybe there was a chance even though all my previous research told me otherwise hehe.

200L is way too small for a Porcupine puffer (even at 4" or so). Thier bioload is tremendous and they really prefer to have room to swim.

After having kept a porcupine previously, I wouldn't keep another in anything less than 180gal (680L).

I still think 90 is the minimum, with insane water changes, I have heard of them in a 72 with a big sump and fuge and all that good stuff.
