F8's and GSP's

Now I know this will more than likely be shot down as I am aware their SG is different but I was asked if they would go together so I am just wondering if it is feesible or not? 40g tank with 2 F8's. My lfs just got some GSP's in and I am just asking this question more outta curiousity than anything as I think if I am gonna add anything it will be a dragon goby as my lfs just got some of those in.

On a side note, I am quite pleased with my lfs as he is actually keeping brackish fish in brackish water Surprising eh?

Which store is it?

On the GSP/F8. Temporarily, I don't see a problem. It would take a lot of salt to keep up the water quality in the tank when the GSPs are big though. Not sure if anyone has kept GPS long term in lower salinities, maybe someone will chime in.

Fraser Aquariums has GSPs and F8's together. The tank may be brackish, but not certain. The shop keeper did say that they can't be kept with other fish. I didn't really ask for more detail, but I assume that means brackish. Really wish I could save them though, they look really bad.

They are at Roger's and hey guess what, Roger actually keeps all his brackish water fish in brackish water, I have never seen a lfs do this and frankly kudos for him for doing so. I may have helped a little by pointing out the fact to him that certain fish he had should be in brackish water LOL. I think he has about 4 tanks with brackish water in them now. Definitely worth the trip for you up to his store

The two biggest fish stores around me keep brackish tanks for their puffers. They take really good care of their fish, which is why I support them (even if some of there stuff is a tad more expensive).

As for keeping GSPs and F8s, I'd probably vote against it. Like you said, GSPs lead a much healthier life if they are kept in a higher salinity. F8s tend to stay in the low end of the brackish/SW setups, so mixing the two could cause a problem for one of them. Also, I wouldn't really find it worth the risk of aggression to keep that many puffers in one tank (especially since the F8s only get to about 3 inches and the GSPs grow to about 6 inches).

If your 40 gallon already has two Figure 8s, I think you'd be better off with Gobies/Chromides/Mollies. Dragon Gobies look awesome, as do Knight Gobies. If you want a GSP, set up another 40 gallon in the future. You can eventually take it to full marine, which opens up your options to some SW species (I believe). However, for the time being, I wouldn't add any other puffers with your F8s. Just look around for some other compatible brackish fish that would add a little more character to your tank.

Much better idea! That tank is a good size for 1 single adult GSP. They'd have to be seperated eventually anyway. GSPs also get 3x the F8's body mass & are much more aggressive as they mature.

Yup just gonna stick with the 2 F8's get the dragon goby today and maybe bring the bbg group up from 3 to maybe 6 and then that will be it
