Striped Raphael catfish. Corvus isn't the only one that knows fish ID!

They blow up & make loud clicking sounds.

And, yes, they can get really fat (but yours is the worst I've ever seen! ). And keep them away from other small fish. They eat what they can catch, and like puffers, they are always hungry But they are not as mean as that bad mystus I had. They are just hungry - always. And they seem to have small mouths, but it's amazing what they can manage to stuff into it! I doubt it is eggs, as breeding is unreported.

PP is right about them making noise.They move there pecs in their sockets and the sound is amplified by their air bladder.But they can't puff up like a puffer.

Yes, they make a disgusting sound if you lift them out of the water. It gave me goosebumps!
No, they don't puff, but they get fat very, very easily!

Yes they are cool. At least as long as you don't have small fish you don't want to lose. Tetras are snack for them (yes, I've tried it).
That little thing on the pic (compare her/his size to the gravel) sucked in catfish food (the kind that looks like pills), without chewing on them. They just disappeared into that mouth and was gone, and it was like the little fish vacumed the bottom of the tank. Well, she's not that small anymore. Now she's big and fat. They grow pretty fast. But unlike that mean mystus I had, they (I have two) are a bit charming.

Synodontis catfish can squeak too. They're called "squeaker catfishes" or "Talking cats" but the latter name relates to a lot of fish. Synodontis though belong to the family mochokidae and I kept some of these, and when they squabbled at night, you could hear it!

Platydoras costatus is not amember of the family Mochokidae.They belong to Doradidae,and they can squeak too.
