My Puffers: Two Fig8s

"Noisy" F8s.

Post by TheSmJ »

Often (especially before being fed for the day) I'll hear a noise coming from my Fig8s. It's sort of a cross between a chirp and a crunch sound... it's hard to describe.

Am I crazy, or are the fish making this noise somehow?

I hear the same from one of my GSPs right before feeding, but even louder as he/she is chewing the meal. I can't say that you are not crazy ( ) but yes, puffers do make noises.

My figure 8 is only noisy when crunching down on foods.

One of my Puffs used to stick his mouth out of the water and croak at me. I've also heard tales of Puffs who spit. RTRs favorite Puff habit.

I have to second the spitting puffer. I tank sat a friends trio of figure 8's (ended up with a 75 gallon tank in my living room floor for a few weeks :o ) and whenever I came around and opened the lid to either pick out debris (floating bodily waste/food puffers coughed up when I wasn't looking mostly the stuff that the filter most likely would miss) one of them (atleast i only think it was only one of them, unless they took turns) would spit a tiny bit of water at me.

I sometimes hear a high-pitched crunch...Steve's heard it as well. I guess they're grinding their teeth, or rooting around and chomping on gravel/sand by mistake.
I've had them spit water at me, but only a couple of times when they were new.
Pami.
