question about raising sg with an established fw filter

I am currently in the process of setting up my 40g for my puffers from the 20g. What I am wondering is I am putting on an established filter from a fresh water tank and normally you need to raise the salinity slowly as to not kill off the bio. Now if I put the filter from the 20g brackish onto the 40g will I be able to avoid this? Or should I still wait and take my time raising the sg? The filter on the 40g is an AC 300 and the 20g has an AC 200. The 200 alone is not enough for the 40g IMO, what I am really wondering is if I have both filters running on the 40g will I still kill the bio from the fw AC300 and start a mini- cylce even with the established bw AC 200 on there at the same time

Basically I can be an impatient person and am just looking at the quickest way of doing this

If you have a filter from a BW tank use that, just make sure the sg matches. You'll have to add food too to give the bacteria food to survive, untill your perams are all 0 (except nitrate)

^ Problem with that is if the bw filter goes on the 40g then the fish need to go too as that is the only bw filter I got. What I was thinking was killing off the bio in the AC300 and starting fresh and just keep the AC200 running beside it on the 40g.
Think this should be fine?

Move the fish, substrate, decor & established filter all to the new tank & add the larger filter on there too. After 6 wks, take off the old filter & you'll never have any cycle period.

I'd move everything, including the water, then fill up the rest of the tank with the same SG water. You should be fine this way.

I'd also fill 1/2 of the new tank with water from the old tank, so as not to shock the fish (if they are used to 50% WC already).

do weekly 50% weekly on all my tanks, I was gonna add all the water from the 20g to the new tank. PP how big is your F8 tank?

Well I gotta say the puffs and the bbg's seem super happy with twice the amount of room, as soon as I put them in they started checking out their new home. Makes me feel really good that they are now in a bigger home. Now all I gotta do is get 2 or 3 more bbg's and a dragon goby:D
