ceylon puff.. new tank, pics

Post by t1gerbee »

"please excuse my darkened belly, i'm hunting... shhhhh! I know it looks frozen, but it might still be alive.....'

Image

'what u looking at?'

Image

'Die, damn you, die!'

Ceylon puff's new 60G tank, this is with 30G filled, still got another 30G above the top of the photo so it's only half full .....but i'd had enough of mixing salt for one night so will complete it at the weekend. I hope it'll look amazing.

Ceylon is about 4-5" long, but he looks tiny in the tank... he loves it though!

One day he may let me photograph him with his white belly, but he's stubbornly refusing at the moment.... :?

The cutie does look little :) . What exactly is he eating? Is it frozen thawed krill?

I like the tank. Is the round plant on the right real? If not it sure does look real.

He's eating the head of a frozen king prawn... i originally bought them for myself but somehow they've ended up as puffer food... laziness really, they are easy to get at, where as the mussles/cockles etc take effort to get out, cut up etc...

the 'moss ball' is fake, everything is... too much salt to handle anything real.

Glad you like my puff, :-)

Eww! Your stomach must be much stronger then mine.

I am a whimp when it comes to feeding. I can not stand to watch my puffers kill their prey. My husband feeds the live snails while I'm looking the other way and the little ghost shrimp we bought as food are now our pets   . Does he eat the whole head?

Aaw, he's so big! Even though he does look small in his new tank :P
How big was he when you got him?
Now, bring me that horizon...

The king prawn was dead when it went in the tank.... it was frozen and bought at sainsburys....!

He doesn't eat the whole head, i fish it out after a bit.. which annoys him... but i don't want him to explode. :-)

He was probably about 2 inches.. so he's doubled in size. He was a poorly, unhappy puff when i got him, so i'm extra proud :-)

I do feed live river shrimp, and sometimes feel guilty, but you can see right through them... so they they just can't have any intellect so i don't mind too much..

Thanks for the comments. :D xxx

When don't puffers get excited? Mine seem to jump around and swim very fast at the site of me. I have never seen fish so excited until I met my GSP's.

t1gerbee you need one more last pic added to your post...One with his belly fat after eating!

Nice pics and puff! How long did it take him to double in size? Our 2 are about 3ish inches, the went from 1.25"-3" in about 1 year.

Think i've had him about 6 months now... he's grown pretty fast, but then he's always had a big enough tank, and his diet has been varied.. and nitrates are kept down to as near as 0 as poss....

...think that's a vast difference from how he was being kept, (very sick puff when i got him) so maybe he was just waiting to have a growth spurt!

Want him to double in size again now he has a really big tank. :-)
