Strange GSP behaviour today... help?
Well I bought a mollie to put in with Chomper and it was fine for a minute or 2.
But then every time the mollie came near him, Chomper would freeze in his spot, spread out his tail and stay totally frozen for a few seconds. His black dots also went very faint.
So I took out the mollie.
Can anyone tell me why he did that - froze, spread his tail, and lost a lot of colour?
He's totally normal now that the mollie's gone - he only did that when the mollie came near by
I am so confused !
Does anyone recommend a better type of tank mate maybe?

He may just be very territorial, but too much of a chicken walrus to do anything?
I just guess he doesn't like the Mollie =/

oh yea, and I figured if he was scarred..... he woulda puffed? ... so i figured what happened today could've been something other than territory
he's puffed once before...
maybe he was prepuffing or something? haha

lol. Possibly. I would think he would puff if he was scared. Maybe he wasn't scared, just didn't want him in there? =/

I think he was in love, and that was his way of blushing and not knowing what to say...

I think that GSP's are more likely to book it when they are scared versus puffing. He was probably executing some type of dominance buy spreading all out like that. He will probably be better off alone in his tank I think as far as the tank mates go.

I guess I'm really wondering why he froze...he totally froze and went super light coloured hisblack dots even fainted.
I know when he's scared of something, yea he runs away very quickly. It was kinda like he froze and was thinking "I'm not moving, you can't see me"

He may have been trying to be incognito and ambush.

You may just have a weird GSP. But my opinion is that it was a territorial display and he was communicting wiht the molly through his skin.

Re: Strange GSP behaviour today... help?
Well, it is pretty much a gamble no matter what type of a tank mate you put in there. What size tank do you have and what level of salt?

55g-2 green spotted puffers 1 year old Nov 08!
20g-5 leopard danio,4 whiteskirt tetras, amanos, nerita snails, 2 neon tetras
