Fahaka Puffer badly in need of a tooth trim

Post by StarLab »

Greetings all. Sorry to just join up and ask for advice, but I have a dire situation I need to tend to ASAP

I work at a LFS and today we had someone trade in a 7-8" Fahaka Puffer. This guy is 5-6 years old and from what I've been reading his size is somewhat smaller than it should be at this point.

The reason: his teeth are severely overgrown! I'm talking massive here. He looks like the beaver from hell. From what the owner told me, he'd been fed nothing but shrimp pellets; no crunchy foods at all to keep his teeth in check.

I've read about trimming teeth in smaller puffers, but do not want to apply those techniques without some validation first. These teeth look to be VERY thick and strong, so I don't think a set of cuticle trimmers is going to do the trick here.

Any advice (other than slapping the previous owner  ) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

A Dremmel tool is in order here. See: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_2/ ... uffer2.htm

Through all my searching, I missed that article.

Thanks Pufferpunk! Being the weekend, I fear this will have to wait until Monday. :(

I feel so sorry for the guy...

Thanks,
Larry

Pictures would be awesome!

If you do get some good clear shots, and are willing, we'd love to use them to help illustrate our teeth trimming article in the library.
