My Congo Puffer puffed!!!
My son and I have both been ill over Christmas so have been up at odd times and last night at about 1am, I was walking through my living room in the semi darkness and glanced over to my Congo's tank , only to see him in his normal bedtime corner 'puffed' He looked just like a ball!!! As soon as I spotted him,and went over to the tank he deflated , shook himself and sat looking at me as if to say 'whats all the fuss about!!! I don't know if I startled him ( although normally he physically skits around the tank if he is startled) or if he was just practising . It was certainly a suprise for me anyway!!! We have had him for three years and have never seen any sign of him puffing before! I just wish I had had a camera, although I would have had to have been very quick!!
I hope all of you had a good Christmas and enjoy a healthy and happy New Year

Congrats on the freebie! It's always interesting to see them puffed. Speaking of...
I have a pic on my cellphone of the porc puffer at the office all puffed up. Was the first time I have witnessed it.

Yeah, seriously. I mean, why would a stupid fish owner PURPOSELY stress their fish? Other than to make a youtube video, of course

I've only had one puffer do a 1/2 puff. It's really like pointless if you think about it.

Yeah, but by the time that he started puffing, I had stopped the siphon.

Re: My Congo Puffer puffed!!!
Yeah, you know those things that pump the air into the tank for like bubbles in the tank? You know the plastic lines that go down to the little decoration? Yeah, that was back when I used one of those things to fully empty out my tank. Now, let's say all my fish die. It would probably take like two hoses siphoning outside AND a phython to remove all the water to empty out the water in a reasonable amount of time. I hate having a big tank. BUT then I can put some smaller tank busters in there, so it's okay. (I'm not referring to like a Giant Gourami or an Mbu, of course!)
I can just see all of you admins and fish fanatics smirking and looking at your 220 and 150 Gallon tanks
I really admire you guys. How in the world can you keep up more than one monster tank? My tank isn't even classified as "Monster", and I'm having a tough time with it!

Re: My Congo Puffer puffed!!!
Atleast in my house, everything is scheduled : water changes, feedings, cleaning, vitamins, extras ie: calciums, carbonates, etc (I have a chart)
I am lucky enough to have a R/O unit and two tubs for salt and fresh water and several lines running to each tank for top-offs when needed.
But when things go a wry...Oh it's crazy...lights quit, things flood (often), snails get stuck in the pumps..etc
I love it but I drink lots of soda to combat the stress. Still we always find a reason to get more tanks. Though we have been good, we downgraded from 11 to 7 this past 6 months.
