How to Set up Quarantine Tank for GSP's

Post by StormySkiez »

What are your suggestions for a quarantine/hospital tank for a fish that is up to 6 inches? I would like to have an extra tank for this purpose. I did read the library section regarding this but still have some questions.

What size Tank? Is 2 1/2 g OK? What if I needed to Q both gsp's? Would a 10g be a better choice or would I need to Q both fish seperate?

Are medicine measurements going to be possible in a 2 1/2g tank?

I'm guessing I would need to start up the tank with their tank water and of course a pre cycled sponge filter to get the Q tank going. Since they are brackish fish, would I need to make sure the salt measure exactly the same as the tank the fish came out of?

I hope to never need to do this. I want to be prepared in case I do. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Why would you need to make a quarantine? If both puffers are going into the display at the same time, and will be having no tankmates, as is usually the case with GSP, there's no reason to quarentine. If you want to have a quarantine ready 24/7 in case you want to add new fish, just buy an extra aquaclear 30 filter and keep it running on the GSP tank all the time. When you bring home a fish that needs to be quarantined, take that off the main tank and pop it onto the quarantine. Instant, fully cycled quarantine.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

The tank would be available in the closet to bring out just in case I need it.

I guess I will go with a 10g as it seems like size is not important but sounds more reasonable then a 2 1/2g for a full grown gsp.
