Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
Monos are schooling fish that grow to 12". It would take at least a 300g tank for a school of adults.

Okay, I suppose if you have them for 12 years, they get up to 12 inches. I have never had a full grown fish. Except for my Modestus. And Zebra Danios. And Dwarf Puffer. And Blue Gouramis. Do you know how big a Banded Leporinus gets? I hope it doesn't get huge like the Tinfoil Barbs.

Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
No, I didn't spend hours online looking at info on Monos. But I do know that they have a relatively slow growth rate. I have NEVER seen a mono bigger than 4 inches, so yes, I guess that they can get that big, but not in no time at all. I've had one of my clown loahces for two years now and he's only grown one inch. As opposed to my tinfoil barbs who doubled in size to 8 inches. So I think we can agree that different fish grow at different rates, provided with the correct accomidations. If I ordered an Mbu for my tank, not only would it be stupid, it would have stunted growth. So I suppose you are correct in a way. In the long run, you will need a bigger tank. But that's like in the marathon long run.
And as a side note to PufferPunk: I saw a Modestus at a different not-so-LFS. So HA! Maybe they aren't so rare after all.

Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
i got the 20g so he could have a bit more room until i can get a 40-55 tank... and because it has a bit more room and is taller than my 10g so i can fit more plants into it when my dp and eel loaches get moved into it. and yes i do plan on having a few tanks running when im not living with my dad anymore... most likely the 55g with the ceylon in marine, the 20 with a few dps, and a reef tank(ive been wanting one). it would be nice to also have a big indoor "pond" like tank, but that would be really expensive. ok make that four tanks cause i want a cichlid tank or an oscar(also been wanting one) hehe i read that you can tame them(did a lot of research on them a few years ago cause i wanted one). ok ill end up with mts like most of you here XD cause i also want a big tropical community tank with paradise fish or dwarf neon rainbows. its official, im addicted now.

i just had the coolest idea!!! id love to have my own house and build an aquarium that kinda connects to other aquariums in each room! then your puffer or oscar can follow you around the house! that would be sooo cool to do.

Wow, I've had the same idea too! I imagined clear pipes that the puffer could swim through to go to different rooms. It would be like those people who have catwalks designed right into the walls.

Just so you know Monos need high brackish- marine conditions when older just like GSPs and Ceylons.groovitudedude wrote:No, I didn't spend hours online looking at info on Monos. Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
so i guess there arent any other fish or bottom feeders i can put with my ceylon right now that will go to marine with her? and are there any freshwater bottom feeders i could put with her now until i move her to a 55g and start her brackish water? she looks so small in the 20g by herself

She's in a 20 gallon now?!?
I think it would be best just to wait for her to go full SW before adding any tank mates. Most fish that start off FW-SW get pretty big,

I thought about that too, you could connect the aquariums with tubes and the fishes could swim through.hadla wrote:i just had the coolest idea!!! id love to have my own house and build an aquarium that kinda connects to other aquariums in each room! then your puffer or oscar can follow you around the house! that would be sooo cool to do.

Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
Thank you for agreeing with me. I said that they would be good tank mates for the Ceylon(s). But PufferPunk apparently disagreed because of size issues.flamesofifreet wrote:Just so you know Monos need high brackish- marine conditions when older just like GSPs and Ceylons.groovitudedude wrote:No, I didn't spend hours online looking at info on Monos. Re: 10g tank while puffer is about 1 inch long...
OH SORRY!!!! I thought you meant that MONOS would grow to 12 inches. My Banded Leporinus is about 7.5 inches now. He's a really cool guy. He doesn't hog the food as much as my barbs though. He has about 12 or 13 stripes on him (both colors). He was another reason I moved from the 55G to my 100G. He could barely turn around in the 55G. He's nice and happy in the tank now. I'm gonna go feed 'em some bloodworms right now. And my DP ate like a pig yesterday.
