Indian Dwarf Puffer?

Post by groovitudedude »

I went to one of my LFSs the other day to see if they had a puffer for my little bro's tank. He has a community tank, and I thought that a DP would do well in there. From my experiences, they are not very aggressive. So, I saw this tank with puffers that looked exactly like DPs, except they were labeled "Indian Dwarf Puffers". I asked the guy and he said that they were brackish puffers and of course needed marine salt and all that good stuff. Do Indian Dwarf Puffers really exist?

Just normal FW dwarf puffers. No salt! Also, NOT community fish. DPs have been known to take fin "rides" of fish 20x their size. Big-time nippers.

Are they really that agressive? I didn't know that, sorry. 20X1 inch= 20 inches. That's twice as big as my biggest fish.

One of the guys that work up at the store told me that he was cleaning a tank and there were some in there and when he wasn't looking they ganged up on him and bit the bejeezuz out of him. He said it felt like a bee sting it hurt so bad.

Wow. I guess I didn't really realize how mean those little suckers actually are. How many do you think I could put in a FULLY CYCLED (this time) 10 Gallon? Any stocking ideas?

3 dwarf puffers, 3 oto catfish and assorted shrimp is a well tested combination. The odd DP kills even shrimp, but it's not all that common.

I didn't mean a 20" long fish, silly! A fish 20x their size would be like an adult silver $ (actually the fish I was talking about).

I put my gouramis in there for a couple hours, and they did fine. I got a dwarf puffer, 3 Zebra Danios, and one red Tetra that I stole from my bro's tank.

Good luck. My mom made me a bet that he wouldn't live 72 hours after I got him. Since she lost, she's getting me some more fish from my LFS for the 10G. It's only like 1/3 stocked so far.

He is amazing. He is getting a bit bigger and has taken to being fed by hand. Now he follows me when I enter the room. I love him so.
How is the tank with all the miscellaneous fish?

It's not doing too bad. My Bronze Puffer passed, and so did two clown loaches. However, I STILL say that Water Changes couldn't have saved them. The WC's gave 'em the ich in the first place. Anyway, I got two more clown loaches, two more loaches to replace the other two, and a 9" Fire Eel.

I am sorry to hear that. Seems there are a lot of difficulties with puffer health lately. I am moving the other 2 GSP's into full marine in the next 2 weeks. It's time for them. AND I need the tank they are in for clownfish fry.
