QT Tank

So when I get my SAP's I want to QT them. So I have two choices.

FIRST: Move DP's and oto's to 30 gal for a couple weeks while the SAPs are QTing
(+) Don't have to catch Kuhlies
(-) Will have to re-catch 3 DP's and two otos

SECOND: Move the Kuhlies from the 30 gal to the 10 gal with DP's and oto's while SAP's QT. Then move the kuhlies back later.
(+) WOn't have to re-catch DP's and otos
(-) Will have to catch Kuhlies

Just asking which I could do. Both tanks are Cycled, Just both ideas have ups and downs. I almost want to do the first one because kuhlies are the hardest fish I've ever had to catch, let alone in a decorated tank without having to take everything apart.

Ideas?

So my other question that I totally forgot till now, is I found some good rocks (slate) for my aquarium, I pulled them out of my moms herb garden, and now I'm soaking them in vinegar and water.

How long should I soak them before they should be aquarium-safe?

Get a plastic top that is clean and fits the width of the tank and then corner them into one side of the tank. Worked for me when trying to get the Cichlids out to fit my puffer. If they swim over the top, reduce the amount of water until they can't swim over the top. (brilliant, huh, lol)

Do you have a 3rd tank or are you mixing them with the Kuhlies?

wait, you mean like a separator between which fish? and I do have a third tank, but it's got goldfish in it and is completely unsuitable for a puffer =/

And yeah, I'm gonna put SAP's with kuhlies, and if that doesn't work, I do know my DP's get along with kuhlies (they've been together before)

Not a seperator between the fish, but just to keep them from swimming all around the tank so it's harder to catch them. If you corner them, it will make it a smaller area to catch them. You may not get ALL fish cornered at the same time, but you can pick them off easier. =)

Main question, How long do I have to soak rocks in vinegar/water for?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the best way to clean the rock is to lightly wash it to get the dirt off. Using vinegar and scrubbing hard on it opens pores and can lead to more problems than if you just rinsed it off.

Also, it's a good idea to sit them in water for a few days to see what pH it turns the water so you have an idea of what kind of rocks you are putting in your tank. This comes in handy as some rocks can severly lower or raise your pH.


As far as the tanks go, I'm not sure how much tank space the Kulies require but each DP needs 5gals/fish, and the 2 SAPs alone are going to need 30gal of water altogether. Which is why I was curious if you had another tank.
