What I did was look through the Pufferpedia to find which Puffer I liked and the specifications. Luckily I already had a big tank for most puffers. And I have been fond of a Fahaka puffer for quite some time. The best advice is to do your research before you buy your setup because if it's not the Puffer you really want, you can't fit a square peg in a round hole with a puffer that needs a bigger setup than you have. If the case is you change your mind down the road.

The Pufferpedia tells you every puffer and the size tank you need. The important thing is what puffers are AVAILABLE to you. The Fahaka Puffer is a tropical fish and my opinion is the bigger the tank the better. you want at least a 120+ gallon tank and you want a lot of over filtration as they are messy eaters, etc.

250l is around 55uk/66us gallons. Juvenile Fahakas frow quick and can be up to an inch a month. You could keep him in there until he got to about 7-8" max and then he would need an upgrade. It would be a lot less hassle and cheaper to get the big tank from the start.

I suggest looking into the cost of a large tank & all the filtration, etc, before connitting yourself. Lots of folks have the best intentions of upgrading, until the time comes & then there are other expenses they didn't plan on, that prevent that from happening.

I agree with Hilly and pufferpunk its best to start with the biggest tank that the puffer needs from the start. If you cannot house a 125G minimum for a fahaka then you should choose another puffer.

The best thing to do is see what type of tank you can afford and accomodate and then restrict your puffer choice to that

They can be kept in a small school too. (abt 4 of them in your 250L tank). Just some suggestion

I have always gone a bit overboard. Get the bigger tank for the Fahaka, chances are you'll love one, if you treat him right. Then use the other for another setup... (just an idea)

Any clue on what you may do?

Upgrading later would not be a great idea. Go ahead and do it right the first time. Maybe use your current tank on another setup that may be ready to hold you over.
