Tanks, the tail is grey or dark grey.
I do not think its a marine.
The story i have is, the island this come from did raise from the sea not to long ago.
I did not get the name of the island but it is a small one outside or near Sumatra
But since this is fairly accurate info, i am quite certain its a fresh water.

There is a very recent thread on them. I hope that fish is dead?

That really doesnt look to me like the pictures that were posted by Browncloud that were ID'd as Chelonodon Patoca.

Yes, sadly its dead. I don't carry my puffers around
But i have 3 more, so its important to me to find out what kind of water it needs.
They look god and healthy in the tank now, but if its a marine species then its not good
And no i don`t think they look like the one posted by Browncloud

I can at least give you a pretty good guarantee they aren't FW.

Sure looks a lot like that in Ebert's book.

This one looks very similar to the C. Patoca in the Aqualog. I personally did not think that Brownclouds did. The head shape looked different to me.

I am thinking the same Pufferpunk, its looks like a Chelonodon Patoca.
However the info from the people i bought it from is mostly correct,
and Patoca are found up river in freshwater
so until i am sure brackish maybe best.

This one looks like a C. patoca. C. laticeps can only assuredly be IDd when looking at the spines.

The ones by Browncloud may be a different species/population, but their nostrils look like Cheolonodon to me. If one thinks they might me a differently colored C. patoca, the right name applied so far would be C. cf. patoca (cf=confer=compare to), which says there are some differences and further studies are needed. If you think it is not C. patoca, but still a Chelonodon, it would be named C. aff. patoca (aff=affinis=similar), which implies this is another, yet unknown species of Cheolonodon and related to patoca. That's open nomenclature.

C. patoca occurs in anything from fresh to marine, for long term care you'll probably need brackish to marine.

Tanks for interest folks

I think i treat them like som form of Cheolonodon and keep them in brackish water. Maybe a high salinity, between brackish and marine
They look god and healthy inn 1.008 maybe increase to around 1.015

I will also try to get more info, from the one who imported them.
He has god connections to the dealers down there i believe

Chelonodon Patoca...aka milk spotted puffer. Our shipper caught ours in fresh water, although they do look like they will be brackish long term.
Not the same speices as the ones i posted pics of recently.
