Went to my LFS today...

Post by crazedpuffer »

They had quite a few interesting FW puffers.
They had a tank full of puffers, I think they are abei but I'm not sure, since they are kinda stressed. Is $20 normal for them?
They also had 2 really fat pig nose puffers, healthy and everything, and of course the sick frail fahaka whos been there for almost a year, who still apparently eats a ton.
Also they had one puffer which is the reason I am posting. It was labeled as XL puffer for like $149.99. I don't recall ever seeing a puffer like it on line, so when I got home I checked the pufferpedia and couldn't find anything like it. It was very personable though, and reminded me of a pustulatus actually. It was basically all yellow with one black spot on both sides and had a nice size tail fin. I have a really cruddy cell phone picture of it i'll load later. Any idea on what it could have possibly been?

Is it freshwater or saltwater?
And does your LFS ship to people?

Just because the LFS keeps it in FW, does in now way mean it's a FW fish.

I'd like to see the picture, it could be a cross river puffer/fahaka hybrid?

Thats what I'm thinking. It had the body of them.
I want to go back in a few days and find out more, maybe it will have adjusted somewhat more and have better defining features.

Well if you can talk them into shipping that Fahaka, I may be interested in saving him.

Really that much?!?
is that the norm or are they seen much cheaper?
Also think I could keep it in a 10-15 gallon tank?

also that other XL puffer, I think it might be a Colomesus Psittacus.

ya i dunno why they say they are rare the 2 shops i seen them at. they are pretty small puffer for that high of a pice tag i thought... seattle is weird with puffer prices cause i see fahakas for 20 , mbus for 40 at one spot and the next spot will be like fahajas 80 and mbus 150... im useing those 2 puffers as excample cause thats what i see last week end.

But Im Not Sure If that is a good price or not im dont know that much about them just what i seen as far as price

10-15 G for an abei is too small. I had mine in 32-33 G, and wouldn't have kept it in a smaller tank. But he was about 4''. The PufferPedia says 25 G as smallest tank size. $20 for an abei seems like a good prize, at least around here. But this is Norway...
