GSP's puffing???

Looks like a GSP to me.

I didn't know their spines were so big though.

Yeah, I am all for it except for the spines.

I would be verry supprised it's spines were that big too but the coloration is right.

I found this picture of a GSP supposedly inflating. But it kind of just looks really fat..

They're from a zoo called the Fort Worth Zoo. All the pictures they have the puffers look very obese... I'm starting to wonder if they overfeed them on purpose to make them appear to be puffed up to zoo guests :/
They really don't look healthy.

I've seen Cheli puff once.

It was about 2-3 weeks after I got him. He had already grown accustomed to the fact that as soon as the tank-lid is opened, it's feeding time. He skates up and down the glass in the front of the tank until I give him what he wants.

I opened the lid of the tank and he immediately started the "dance". I turned around to grab his dinner. I was watching a hockey game at the time, and was distracted momentarily by a beautiful goal being scored, so I paused to watch the replay. It was such a beautiful goal that the replay was shown about a dozen times.....

When I finally turned back toward the tank there he was, roughly the size and shape of a golf ball, and yes.....VERY spikey! Surprisingly so. He was also teetering back and forth like a teeter-totter. I was so shocked I just stood there, mouth agape.

I think it shocked him, too. He "coughed" a few times, deflated, then kind of sank down onto the top of his cave and sat there with a rather stunned look for a minute or so.

I turned the tank lights off and he snapped out of it. I fed him. He ate.

We don't talk about the incident, he and I. It's as if the whole thing never happened.

But yes....the spikes are rather startling looking for such a "cute" little thing.

WOW! I wouldn't suspect my little Bolla to look like that! When she did the partly puffing, I saw nothing of her spines, but it was only a little "I don't like this" puff. I would really like to see her do it properly some time! But I guess she wouldn't. She's a bit timide.

That puffed GSP, I've seen it quite alot while searching porcs. I never actually looked at it just the small avatar thing and it looked close enough, but wow it sure does look like a GSP.

This is pretty morbid, but one of my GSPs (Creamypuff) puffed right before he died. I had gotten a pair and his sibling (Chunkypuff) is alive and well today. None of the other GSPs I have have ever puffed (even when one was accidentally squished a little during a water change once) so I'm sure he must have been in considerable distress when he was dying. Anyway, it didn't look anything like that picture of the long-spined GSP. He only puffed fully for a second, but he was covered in tiny spines maybe 1-2mm each. They were pretty dense over his body, not spaced out very far. He was only 2 inches at most at the time, so maybe the spines get bigger with age? But still that one in the hand looks pretty small. I wonder if it's just a Photoshop manipulation?

Note: On this video I was about to give him food so he hasn't touched or eat the food yet. All the fishes rushed near him and he got scared and puffed up. He only partially puffed. People keep commenting "ohhh he's just full of food" and all these crap.... I think I would know if he just ate or not because I didn't give him the food yet...

It could be fake or maybe dried out. Like I said there wasn't any background story to this picture. Judging from the sizes of the 2..(considering they are both in someones palm) I would say that the second one could be fully grown.

Poor little fishie! That one from Aqualand is exactly what Creamypuff looked like, with those tiny densely-packed spines. That weird spikey one can't be fully grown. Fully grown is around 5-6 inches so, puffed up, that would be about the size of a softball or maybe a small grapefruit. I still say it has been either digitally manipulated, or maybe it's a really weird mutation.
