new dwarf puffer!

Post by babspuffer »

just got a dwarf puffer yesterday!! he(?) is on his own in a 27litre tank. He has eaten already, some daphnia yesterday evening and a couple of bloodworm today but i'm slightly worried that his stomach looks a little sunken. i guess i will watch him over the next 24 hrs and see. maybe have to treat him for parasites? he's called scooter!! i'll try to get some half decent photos but he's so small!

Heehee! I hope things go well. From what I've heard (don't quote me on it), most puffers are only caught in the wild, and can sometimes have internal parasites.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about puffers other than what I've read, so I can't really help you out.

Dwarf puffers are easily tank bred, but it could have come from the wild too.

I just got some dwarf puffers about a week ago and one of them had a really sunken belly, with some good food and vitamins he's perked right up and his belly looks fine. Do you know what they were feeding him at the LFS? Most likely it was just flakes.

But if his belly still looks sunken in a few days treat him for parasites.

Congrats for the new puffer!
I agree. A lot of DPs are tank bred, but they might still have parasites. All 3 of mine had parasites and it took 3 treatments to get rid of them in one of my puffer. Keep a close look on him!

If he's growing it's a very good sign. Mine didn't grow until IP treatments so it might just be that your puffer was fed fish flakes at the lfs!
So, how about those pics? ;-)
