Questions on Fahaka Survival

I have done quite a bit of research on Fahaka puffers and notice on Aquabid that there is one for sell. I was seriously thinking of acquiring him as a new pet. Would there be any precautions on the first 24 hrs of receiving him and what is the best way to ensure their survival?

I haven't bought a fish online before and am curious what you all think. And tips or recommendations welcome.

So long as you drip acclimate him it should be fine.
What size tank you got?

How big is he? What size tank do you have for him? Are you prepared for a 120g (minimum) sized tank & all the filtration required to support a monster fish? Do you have a cycled tank ready for him? You can always purchase Bio-Spira to cycle the tank, but fishless cycling is best.

yeah ditto to pufferpunk there. You need a big, big big cycled tank for these guiys fromthe start

He is said to be 2 inches. I have a 125 gal tank fully cycled with extra filtration for the puffer. Currently with about 14 Cichlids in there. Cichlids aren't a bad, but I absolutely adore the Puffer species. I think a Fahaka would be just what I'm looking for. Would be a nice single species tank for this fella...

What do you think?

Do you have another tank to move the cishlids too? I'd try wait until right before you get the puffer before taking them out, so the tank will stay cycled for the puffer. Perfect senerio for a new fish!

Love to hear that!

My only concern is my pH is 7.8... which it will stay around unless I add something to bring the pH to 7.0... Should I leave it alone or lower it to 7.0?

A stable Ph is more important than trying to adjust it chemically.You should be fine at 7.8

You mean for the fahaka? You can do a large WC before adding it & be sure to acclimate the puffer. It will have a lot of ammonia build-up (low pH) in the bag it's shipped in.

(these cichlids are going to be a pain to get ahold of in a net! lol)
