Colomesus Asellus won't eat snails... with update. :D

Post by awzen »

Got my self a Asellus two days ago, have feed him bloodworms, and he like it quite well. Have tried on giving him snails, but he show no intrest in them. Tried to crush it, so he migth get the taste of it, but no. Dropt it in the tank rigth in front of his nose, still no intrest. :(

Tried to give him some shrimp just now, trid to hold it in the top of the water, and riggle it, droped a piece, and he is just doing his "normal" exploring of leafs and swimming around.

Gonna leave the shirmp piece for an hour and see if he wants to eat.. But.. He it littrually just svimmin rigth over it at this point.. Do not like this.. He need to eat some snails soon..

Any idea how to get his intrest?

It could be he's still adjusting they can go for over 2 weeks without food.
How big is your tank? How was it cycled? Also are there a lot of decorations? Sometimes they won't eat if they don't feel secure enough.
Also try live ghost shrimp or blackworms to try entice his eating. You could also add garlic to his food (its a natural stimulant).

The tank is 48l. The pump has been jused for about a year. I kind of bougth him on an impulse.. I've read about puffers alot befor this tho. So i knew what I was goning in to. I got loads of plants in the tank.

Ghost shrimp.. hmm.. I'am not sure if I could get a hold of that.. I got cherryshrimps.. ? :p

Garlic, should i just take a piece of it, put in a cut of water with the snails? He do eat bloodworms, but.. nothing else so far.. I'm just a bit worried about his teeth..

Tomorrow I'll be picking up one more. At the store they where two, a friend of mine bougth the other one. Could it be thats he's lonly? Anyways, he will be getting company tomorrow.. And a new tank in a couple of days..

As long as he's eatin something it's good enough. A tank mate could help I suppose. My porc Shelby basically only eats bloodworms too, but I think once I get her in her permanent home with her tank mates and they eat she'll join the fun too.
I suppose gut loaded RCS could work but I think they are tii pretty too feed to puffers, I wouldn't have the heart to do it haha.
Also I'm not sure if garlic works with live food but that is what you when you add it to frozen food.

A little update. Yesterday I went to get one more asellus. With it i got a 54l tank. :D This will be their new home as soon as its done cycled.

Today I tried feeding with a catfish tablet, and they both attacked it. So, I tryed with a snail. And Jei!! :D The one that did't eat it before attacked it, and eat it well and all.. :D I'am so happy! :D

Stopped by a fish store on the road, and got my self 2 L204 as well, and this morning my Corydoras Melini had layed a bunch of new eggs. My day could not be better! :D
